If you're a fan of the super atmospheric soundtrack albums of old cult horror movies like John Carpenter's The Fog, or Goblin providing the psychedelic backdrop classic meltdown to one of Dario Argento's movies, or if you enjoy the spacey synth rock of bands like Tangerine Dream or ever went clubbing to the sounds of Nine Inch Nails, you will be sure to love this Xander Harris debut as much as I do. Every track is drenched in its own aura and atmosphere. It is the soundtrack to a Brian Keene novel, which if you stop and think about it for a minute, is really cool: vinyl LP soundtracks to contemporary horror novels? That is precisely what we have here. Track two "The House" slows the pace to a creepy feel drenched in menacing synth tones. The bright uptempo shift on track four "Splatter in the Mouth" still manages to evoke an air of background suspense, while the following track "Hatchet to the Teeth" explores a magnified moment in slow motion, lending the perfect electronic fertilizer for the plugged-in listener's enjoyment. I would call this music head candy for sure, and it's almost ferocious dedication to bringing an original atmosphere to every song is what haunts me after many repeat listenings. Overall these tracks blend together to form an excellent addition to my psycho electronic soundtrack collection, from Zombi to Skinny Puppy. Xander Harris is already starting to release more albums in the underground than I can keep up with.
